Authentic Models – Gee-Bee Squadron Mobile – The Gee Bee Model R Super Sportster was a special-purpose racing aircraft made by Granville Brothers Aircraft of Springfield, Massachusetts at the now-abandoned Springfield Airport.
The airplane was billed as the fastest and most manoeuvrable licensed airplane for its horsepower in the United States and won the 1932 Thompson Trophy Race race for pilot Jimmy Doolittle, setting a new world landplane speed record of 476 km/h
