About

Forfar Road Gallery and Collectibles is a retail space located at 110 Scotland Street, Roxburgh, in the beautiful Central Otago region of the South Island of New Zealand.

The inspiration for the gallery was to showcase the talent that exists in the region. As proprietors, we, Janet Podham and myself: Gordon Still, sensed a need for a destination in the town of Roxburgh that could display the works created by people such as local artists Sheena Lassen and Dorothy L. Piper, local potter Marion Mewburn, wood sculpturist Murray Sheppard, Jeweller Julia Fast to name a few.

The idea started to become a reality upon securing the premises situated at 110 Scotland Street, and work began transforming a run-down unused grocery store into a light, bright, funky showroom. An ideal place to present the beautiful artworks created in our scenic wonderland of Central Otago. We expect to add many more names to this list as our journey progresses.

When considering a name for the gallery, we decided on calling it Forfar Road Gallery and Collectibles, considering Gordon used to live in the town of Forfar in the county of Angus in Scotland before moving to New Zealand. We found an old enamel road sign: Forfar Road, in an antique store, then considered that all of the street names in Roxburgh in Central Otago are named after Scottish towns. It, therefore, seemed quite appropriate that a gallery called Forfar Road Gallery and Collectibles would fit perfectly in the township of Roxburgh.

We decided to include items for sale, such as mid-century style collectibles, as we have a keen interest in this era. We offer a selection of West German pottery and porcelain items, mid-century Italian glass and ceramics, mid-century English porcelain, pottery and collectibles. We also offer a selection of New Zealand made mid-century porcelain, pottery and collectibles from makers such as Crown Lynn, Temuka Pottery, and Hanmer Pottery. We also have a selection of vintage travel posters, vintage art prints, and general collectible and memorabilia from the 1950’s era.

We are always keen to buy items that suit our style. We are happy to sell your collectible items on commission. We are always ready to discuss opportunities with talented artists and craftspeople to display and sell their works in our gallery.
