The best thing about operating your own gallery and retail space is the opportunity to choose to stock the things you like and enjoy personally. It is always rewarding and satisfying to meet others who like the same things.
Here at Forfar Road Gallery & Collectibles, we have offered for sale a variety of classic audio components, turntables, amplifiers, speakers, etc., and have enjoyed sharing the love of classic audio with our many customers. New Zealand made audio components are a personal favourite. At home, I have enjoyed the likes of McLaren amplifiers, Image speakers, and a variety of other amazing Kiwi offerings.
Second favourites would have to be British made. Particularly classic British components that were made to suit good quality turntables, offering a rich, warm-sounding music well suited to home environments.
Modern homes and lifestyles, however, do not always suit the classic style of listening to your favourite music. Digital music systems offer a much more practical solution to fast-paced lifestyles and offer modern alternatives, but not necessarily the same depth and warmth of sound that was the distinct aspect of classic audio choices, with the odd exceptions, of course.
A Digital Audio System will convert an analog sound signal to a digital binary signal. This digital data can be easily stored and manipulated for use in other digital devices. The signal is then converted back to analog for playback.
As with most things, there are a number of pros and cons with digital vs analog comparisons. Digital systems are easier to access and use, often more portable, and require a smaller footprint. File formats can be edited and are obviously easier to store. Some argue that digital audio doesn’t offer the same depth and warmth of sound experienced with analog systems. Ruark Audio systems accurately bridge the differences, offering a rich, warm quality of playback with all the benefits of a digital system. Most models provide a variety of input options, including an exceptionally good turntable input.
The first time I listened to a Ruark Audio digital music system, I was blown away. Designed in the U.K., these systems, which have a great retro appearance, a relatively small footprint, and offer a host of connectivity options, sound absolutely amazing. With the tagline Ruark – The Art of Listening, I could confidently expect that these systems would fit well with other offerings at Forfar Road Gallery & Collectibles.
A standout feature for me with the Ruark Audio range is the ability to create a lossless connection to favourite music streaming services, such as Spotify and Tidal. The sound quality is noticeably improved compared to a compressed Bluetooth signal.
